Preventive Care & Comprehensive Wellness

At Fetch The Pet Vet, our goal is to prevent disease. In order to do that, we need a Veterinary-Client-Patient-Relationship (VCPR). This, by law, requires an exam by a veterinarian at least once a year.

We believe that annual to semi-annual exams are important for the health of your pet, and they are required to maintain our Veterinary-Client-Patient-Relationship. Along with a complete physical, a SNAP 4dx (in dogs to check tick-borne disease and heartworm), a fecal and screening blood work is recommended for both cats and dogs annually. Certain medications or chronic conditions may require blood work or exams more often. Annual screening blood work helps us to know what is normal for your pet. Then, we can monitor trends year to year and catch subtle changes sooner. Yearly monitoring of weight, skin masses, dental changes, orthopedic conditions, and even catching things that are brewing are all paramount to the yearly exam.

Our dogs and cats can become infected with parasites internally and externally. They can even pass these infections on to people, especially children. It is very important to be sure your pets are parasite-free. We recommend heartworm/tick testing (SNAP 4Dx for dogs) and fecal tests for both dogs and cats yearly. In our area, ticks and fleas are the biggest external parasite concern.

Vaccines are the core of prevention and decrease the spread of diseases. Starting your pet on the right schedule early is one of the keys to a long and healthy life. Vaccines are special proteins that prime the immune system to fight off specific infections.
